Thursday, 14th November 2025, The Berom nation converged to chart a way forward having identified challenges bedeveling the land. Held at Teest Hotel Rayfield, Jos. Through its apex organization, The Berom Educational and Cultural Organization (BECO), stakeholders agreed to throw their weights behind and team up with BECO and other Berom organizations who are projecting the image of the land in good light.

Welcoming guests at the roundtable conference, BECO Secretary General, Da Chollom Gyang express joy over the turn up and urge participants to relax and get ready for a robust discussion which will shape the psyche of the Berom people. The Secretary General clarified an impression and stereotype that BECO is at loggerhead with other Berom organizations, he said the harmonious working relationship among the organizations seems to be giving some individuals sleepless nights.

Delivering his speech to pave way for the discussion, BECO President Worldwide, Da Gyang Dudu Dalyop highlighted in summary the journey so far with him at the saddle, he enumerated some monumental turnaround and remarkable achievements since 2019 when he took over, Da Gyang Dudu Dalyop, segmented his speech into the past, the present and the way forward which form the basis of the theme for the conference: “BECO: The Past, The Present and The Future “.
The President urged everyone to profer ways that will positively shape the Berom nation into greatness, stressing this generation cannot afford to fail the next generation through her inaction. Da Gyang Dudu Dalyop reiterated the need for strong institution which will stand the test of time.

Kickstarting the discussion proper by introducing the first paper presentation, renown scholar and university don, Prof Dung Pam Sha of the university of Jos, spoke on the topic “Socio-cultural organizations in developing communities – exploring the synergy and partnership between Berom socio-cultural organizations, the traditional council etc to promote unity and development in the land”. Prof Sha spoke extensively on the need for synergy among Berom organizations, he advised the leadership of the various organizations to x-ray their leadership styles whether it’s responsible for the frequent bickering.

The university don, suggested an organogram for the land, which according to him will help solve some of the challenges of leadership in the land. Achieving remarkable progress is a collective determination of the entire Berom nation through the purposeful leadership of its leaders, as such he urged all leaders to be united on purpose towards the realization of a better Berom nation which will be an enigma.

Prof Sha took time to shade light on other grey areas of his presentation which seems to be unclear to the audience, he thereafter took questions from the audience.

The second paper for the day was presented by a grounded academician and an administrator per excellent Dr. Daniel Kim on a topic; “BECO – 1980 to date: Evolution, Relevance and Challenges: Agenda for the future”.

Dr Kim went down memory lane to portray the landmark transformative evolution of BECO which according to him has projected the berom nation in good light. He opined that the nation has gained much respect and honour from other Plateau nationalities as a result of the leadership style the berom nation has displayed. The psychological war and dominance in the political landscape is a function of the strength of the socio-cultural organizations of the land.
Dr Kim said, in the midst of numerous challenges bedeveling the land, the nation must not focus on the challenges, but team up with one another to conquer them squarely. He stressed that the Berom nation must remain dominant in the scheme of things on the Plateau as well as the middle belt, “this agenda must be pursued vigorously for a continuous relevance”. He reminded the Berom nation to be grateful for past, be thankful for today and engage the future with hope. To him, this is the bedrock for any meaningful turnaround.
Dr Daniel Kim, said the continuous recycling and application of old unproductive ideas in this contemporary world will not amount to any meaningful and instrumental result.
The presenter took questions from the audience to wrap up his session.
In conclusion, while steering the discussion, BECO President, Da Gyang Dudu Dalyop appreciated the robust discussion, and assured everyone that it was worth their time. Da Gyang Dudu said, unlocking the potentials inherent in everyone is a function of determination. He said, BECO doesn’t belongs to him, as such no one should ascribe the glory of the organization to him but to the entire Berom nation.
A communique is expected to be issued in a later date which will be presented to His Majesty the Gbong Gwom Jos.
