It has become necessary for the Berom Educational and Cultural Organization (BECO) to once more call on our people to note the deepening security situation in our land and its attendant bloody consequences on lives and properties. We have reluctantly resumed the unenviable task of mass burial of our people.
That there’s an upsurge in terrorist activities targeting our villages, is no gainsaying. Equally, that some of the casualties from the targeted killings usually emerge through avoidable means, bordering on seeming carelessness, is unfortunate and regrettable.
Ambush-in-the-night strategy, employed by the terrorists undoubtedly, has accounted for a substantial proportion of the casualties. This is obviously avoidable.
BECO is compelled to revisit our earlier warning advisory to all our communities to beware of the times and seasons we are in. The influx into our communities of terrorists from other parts of the north, should signal a strong sign of a hanging danger to us. We must therefore strategise to effectively contend with the impending dark clouds hanging over us.
We therefore, call for proactive readiness and instant alertness on the part of all our people. Towards this end, we call on our traditional rulers in particular, to please direct all sub group leaders under them, to observe and enforce the following:
- All activities and festivities must end by 6:00 pm and venues must completely deserted by 6:30 pm.
- All inter village movements after 6:30 pm are prohibited. People are advised to stay the night wherever they find themselves by 6:30 pm.
- Leaderships of groups are encouraged to liaise and relate with neighbouring villages during their night patrols to abreast themselves with unusual movements and occurrences around them.
- Night mining is suspended herewith, until appropriate security arrangements and protocols are put in place, shortly. This is to guarantee the safety of the miners.
We note that this directive may conflict with some narrow interests and comfort of a few individuals. However, the need to safeguard and protect life and property is paramount in times like this. We have acted in the overall interest of the land and therefore appeal to all to respond in same manner. We shall soon overcome if we faint not in this day of adversity.
God bless the Berom nation.
Chollom Gyang Logwong
Secretary General.
