The story of the Berom Community North America (BCNA) is akin to the analogy above. Although, challenges abound, but courage and resilience triumphed over them all. It’s important to emphasize a saying that goes, “the journey of a thousand miles begins with a step”. A step forward, and not backward will certainly take one to his preferred destination or even beyond.

It’s no coincidence that the journey which  started in the early 2000 has Da Rev Dr. Nash Pwol Da Rev Dr. Benjamin C. Datiri, they duo are citizens of America but never forgot their root, hence the creation of Berom Community North America (BCNA) with a mandate to unite all Berom sons and daughters residing in North America and also galvanize support for the development of the homefront. This is one dream and goal they haven’t deviated from since its inception.

BCNA has since organized four (4) successful conventions in fulfilment of her mandate. This credit goes to the entire community but with special recognition of the immediate past leadership led by Ngo Felicia Chomo Sodipe, (Jakadiyar Jos) whose leadership spans over 8 years successful years living indelible footprints. As a matter of fact, Ngo Sodipe leadership style brought BCNA to limelight, projecting it to enviable heights that has become a model for other Berom diaspora organizations.

Now that the seed sown by Da Rev Dr. Nash Pwol and Da Rev Dr. Benjamin C. Datiri has grown into a fully matured plant with its harvest plentious, it’s important to print their names in the books of remembrance for the next generation to emulate. They both came together, harmonized their dreams, this is significant, reminding us about the power of coming together. There’s much to achieve when the people are united, this was demonstrated at the building of the tower of Babel.

I therefore call on the Berom nation to kindly honour these two elders who deemed it fit to fly the Berom flag in far away America in recognition of their patriotism and love to the land. This will spur them to do more for the land and also encourage others to lift the banner of Berom nation wherever they found themselves in the face of the earth.

I will like to charge the new executives to keep the fire burning by ensuring the community is an all inclusive one, kindly reach out to all sons and daughters who might be cold at the moment, ensure you bring them to the fore. The immediate past EXCO has done and excellent job, there’s no doubt, the expectation of our people is to see you surpass their performance.

In her welcome speech, President of BCNA, Ngo Felicia Chomo Sodipe expressed joy over the turn out, she encouraged participants to relax, have fun with an assurance of full packed entertainment. Reading her scorecard, Ngo Sodipe enumerated several achievements during her tenure in office, it’s important to note, she’s served BCNA for the past 8 years as President. She appreciated all members for their unalloyed support during her tenure.

The BCNA is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the welfare of Berom communities in the diaspora and the homeland. Its vision is to empower and unite Berom communities, fostering cultural preservation, social welfare, and economic development.

The convention which had its theme centered on technology as “Harnessing the Power of Technology for Socio-economic Growth of Beromland”. Keynote presenter, Amb Tabitha Hris expounded on the topic, revealing the realities and opportunities in technological atmosphere.

The convention provided a platform for members to connect, share ideas, and celebrate their rich cultural heritage. The election of new officials demonstrates the community’s commitment to growth, progress, and the preservation of their traditions.

Highlights of the convention includes paper presentations, cultural display, tour to NASA space center Houston, election/swearing in of new officials and fund-raising for the sustenance of BCNA.

As the BCNA continues to thrive, it remains focused on its core values, including unity, cultural preservation, respect, empowerment, and selflessness. With its new leadership in place, the organization is poised to tackle new challenges and opportunities, ensuring the continued prosperity of the Berom community in North America.

Ngo Sodipe expressed shocked and regret at the recent turn of events at the home front, she said at this moment of despair, sorrow and devastation that occured in Bokkos, the best anyone can offer is love, compassion and encouragement to the displaced persons, families of the bereaved and the oppressed communities.

Mrs Sodipe called on government at all levels, civil society organizations, opinion leaders and stakeholders to tame the situation from future occurrence. She frown at the recent development which has again bruised the established peace on the Plateau.

BCNA prayed for the Ron Kulure Community Development Association, Bokkos LGA, Plateau State and Nigeria at large for a sustainable peace and security of lives and properties.

Responding on behalf of RCDA, Prof Stephen Mallo appreciated the BCNA for the kind gesture, he said,
“We can’t thank you enough! May the good Lord replenish the source several times over! Kindly extend our very warm greetings and appreciation to your Members please”.

As you mark your birthday, BECO want to share in the joy that it brings, and the promises it has in stock for you. We pray God for divine health, long life and good vision for a continuous impact upon the land. You may be far away from home, but your spirit and impact is very tangible/physical than one could ever imagine. As a true Ambassador of Berom land, have the assurance that the leadership at home is proud of your exploits in touching lives.

In her opening remark, the President of the association Ngo Felicia Chomo Sodipe explained the importance of the project as well as its spiritual implication on the land. Ngo Sodipe underscores the significance of the monument which will birth a legacy for the upcoming generation reminding them that there was once genocide perpetrated against the Berom nation.

Ngo Sodipe tasked the Monument Project Committee to stick religiously to the terms of reference which serves as a guide in the discharge of their duty.

Speaking on the dream/initiative, Da Nash Pwol described how the idea was birthed, he said God dropped the idea in his spirit with a determination to give credence to the service of the fallen heroes who were slain by the terrorists. Da Pwol said erecting a monument is a symbol of respect and honour to the deceased. He said the monument will be 40ft high to be located at Dyemburuk village of Du district, Jos South LGA, where over 500 persons were murdered in their cold blood in one night.

The Monument Project Committee is made up of the following personalities:

1. Da Gyang Dudu Dalyop, BECO President worldwide – Chairman
2. Da Nash Pwol (BCNA) – Member
3. Ngo Abigail Banga, BEWDA President – Member
4. Ngo Mary Mapis (BCNA) – Member

Terms of reference were given to the committee for smooth running of the project, a timeline to actualize this project will be communicated to the committee shortly.

The Chairman of the MPC, Da Gyang Dudu Dalyop in his acceptance speech on behalf of other members of the committee appreciated BCNA for the confidence it have in them. He promised to do his best to deliver on the assignment for the glory of God.

Da Gyang Dudu is also expected to deliver a paper at the convention slated to hold from 26th to 27th July, 2019 at County Inn and Suites, Pollard Boulevard, Atlanta, Georgia specifically aims to raise funding and awareness for BCNA, to promote the welfare of its tribesmen particularly in Africa.

The Convention’s objective also include finding support for their fellows back in Africa.

BCNA was established by Mr. Nash Pwol, a Nigerian-American theological scholar, with its first official acting President being, Mr. Benjamin Datiri, also a scholar and cleric.

It is currently led by Mrs. Felicia Sodipe and is committed to advancing the cultural heritage of its tribe with special interest on its youths in the diaspora and in the homeland.

The association registered with the United States Government specifically aims to mobilize support for its Nigerian counterparts in Plateau State facing humanitarian challenges.

It also sets to promote educational advancement, particularly in Information Communication Technology among its youths in diaspora and at home.

The maiden convention of the association is expected to hold biannually.

Goodwill messages have been received from Gbong Gwom Jos His Royal Majesty Da Jacob Gyang Buba CON, Senator I. D. Gyang representing Plateau North, Rep. Dr. Simon Mwadkwon representing Barkin Ladi/Riyom Federal Constituency, Rep. Dachung Bagos representing Jos South/Jos East Federal Constituency, Hon. Timothy Dantong representing Riyom Constituency PLHA, Hon. Fom Gwottson Dalyop representing Jos South Constituency PLHA, Hon. Peter Ibrahim Gyendeng representing B/Ladi Constituency PLHA, Hon. Surv. Mrs. Esther Simi Dusu representing Jos North/West Constituency PLHA, and other illustrious sons and daughters.

Among those to attend, are BECO President, Da Gyang Dudu Dalyop, Mrs Christie Gavou Ezekiel Best, Ngo Hanatu Dantong and Barr. Gyang Zi.

The convention promises to be colourful and add value to the Berom Nation.
